Details
This beautiful oak is “big” in many regards: big acorns, big leaves, big in ultimate size, and most importantly, big in the minds of deer and turkeys, being the “sweet” (low in tannins) acorns are highly favored by both in fall. Naturally found both in floodplains and moist forests, it can grow into a beautiful large shade tree in wet or dry conditions, though fertile acid to neutral sites are best. As we recommend with all oaks, these wind-pollinated trees are best in groups of the same species in reasonably close proximity to ensure best acorn production.
